Some tips on fitting it all in
Most mum’s should have a minor in a Logistics degree that’s how quickly we need to adjust to all the different directions a family get’s pulled in once the kids show up. We hear phrases such as; make time for yourself, put yourself first, make time for me time, happy mum=happy kids but how hard is it to actually practically do that and sometimes is still laced with guilt and pressure to be it all. It’s ok to be vulnerable and say no to some things, and it’s ok to not have it all figured out yet, the family schedule is a fluid, ever changing situation with competing priorities, but heres some practical tips on how to fit in your sessions.
Get up before the kids - I know, its hard, i’m sorry, we’re all so tired, but sometimes that precious half an hr before anyone else is stirring can set you up for the day and means you’ve already ticked it off your list uninterrupted, and you’ll never regret it.
Pre plan the week - Choose one night a week, Sunday tends to be the popular choice, plugging in a couple sessions where you know your partner, friend or someone around you can watch the kids whilst you do you session. Once its there you’ll do it, if you don’t schedule it in, the odd’s are against you and you probably won’t
Choose a goal - That could be, run a couple k’s in 4 months time, get back on a horse (a real one), Star jump without worrying, join a local gym, pick a new hobby and start karate chopping into next week. This is the foundation to help you get there
Pick a Reward- For example - once I stick to this every day for the next 6 weeks I get an hour long remedial massage, once I do it for 12 weeks I get a night away solo in a hotel sleeping 15 hrs, choose something to keep you motivated and build positive self talk.
Have a buddy - Yes, being busy is hard, but say you do a regular playdate with a friend, start at the same time together and do a session every now and then while your at the park, or pre-wine, keep each other on track and have that support
3 weeks can turn into 3 years- On average is takes 21 days to form a new habit, and funnily enough, is generally from a physiological perspective when you start to notice small changes in your body, if you can build in your sessions daily / every 2nd day you are more likely to stick with a more active lifestyle moving forward.
